Jorge E. Tolosa, MD, MSCE

Fundador y Co-director

Dic/2020  El Dr. Tolosa obtuvo su título de Médico y Cirujano y  es especialista en Obstetricia y Ginecología de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana en Bogotá, Colombia. Recibió una beca del Consejo Británico en Colombia  y completó un postgrado en Medicina Perinatal y Ultrasonido en “Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Postgraduate Medical School, University of London”, en Londres, Reino Unido. Su interés en la investigación biomédica lo llevó a la Universidad de Pensilvania en Filadelfia EEUU, donde con el apoyo de una beca de la Fundación Rockefeller y el programa INCLEN, obtuvo una Maestría en Epidemiología Clínica. Completó los requisitos de residencia en Obstetricia y Ginecología y un postgrado en Medicina Materno Fetal en Pennsylvania Hospital/Universidad de Pensilvania. Trabajó en el “Perinatology Research Branch”, del Instituto Nacional de Salud de los EEU, en Washington D.C., y fue nombrado Profesor Asociado en Obstetricia y Ginecología y Medicina Materno Fetal en la Universidad Thomas Jefferson en la ciudad de Filadelfia, EEUU. Fundó la red «Global Network for Perinatal and Reproductive Health» para desarrollo de investigación aplicada en salud reproductiva y perinatal y apoyo a un programa de intercambio académico en Colombia, con apoyo de la Fundación Rockefeller.  Actualmente es Profesor en «Oregon Health & Science University» en Portland Oregon, EEUU. Recientemente se unió al Departamento de Obstetricia y Ginecología de «St. Luke’s University Health Network», en Bethlem, Pensilvania, EEUU, como Director de Investigación en la División de Medicina Materno Fetal.

Es el Presidente del Comité Directivo de la Red «Global Network for Women’s  and Children’s Health Research» del Instituto Nacional de Salud de los EEUU (2019-22), que desarrolla investigación aplicada en países de bajo y mediano desarrollo.

Es miembro del Comité permanente sobre aspectos médicos y epidemiológicos de la contaminación del aire para empleados del gobierno de los EEUU y sus familias del Departamento de Estado. Academias Nacionales de Ciencia, Ingeniería y Medicina de los EEUU.

Fundó y es Co-Director de FUNDARED-MATERNA en Colombia.

Co-directora

Obstetra y Ginecóloga de la Universidad del Rosario (Bogotá – Colombia), Epidemiólogo Clínico de la Universidad del Rosario y Universidad CES, Subespecialista en Medicina Materno Fetal de la Universidad del Rosario y Diplomado en Medicina Fetal y Cirugía Fetal de la Fundación Medicina Fetal – Kings College Hospital (Londres – Reino Unido).

Tiene especial interés en la investigación clínica, docencia y coordinación de proyectos en el área de medicina fetal y obstetricia de alto riesgo.

Conferencista en congresos y seminarios internacionales, profesorado de los diferentes cursos de certificación en ecografía obstétrica y cursos de formación en emergencias obstétricas.

Es Presidenta de la Asociación Antioqueña de Medicina Materno-Fetal (AAMMFE) y Embajadora de la Sociedad de Medicina Materno Fetal de los Estados Unidos para Colombia.

Codirige FUNDARED-MATERNA en Colombia, una Fundación dedicada al desarrollo de capacidades y desarrollo de la investigación de implementación en Obstetricia, Ginecología y Salud Reproductiva.

Doctor en Estudios de Paz y Conflicto de Tokyo University of Foreign Studies en Japón. Magister en Estudios de Paz y Conflicto de la misma universidad; Profesional en Gobierno y Relaciones Internacionales de la Universidad Externado de Colombia.

Actualmente se desempeña como investigador asociado al Grupo de Investigación OPERA de la Universidad Externado y docente de pregrado y posgrado de la misma institución.

Dr. Jaime Luis Silva, MD

Obtuvo su título de médico y completó la residencia en Obstetricia y Ginecología en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana en Bogotá –Colombia.

Completó una beca de investigación en la Escuela de Medicina de la Universidad de Temple en Filadelfia.

Completó su formación en Medicina Materno Fetal en la Fundación Universitaria de Ciencias de la Salud en Bogotá, Colombia.

Ha trabajado como investigador y es miembro de FUNDARED-MATERNA.

El Dr. Silva tiene un interés especial en las complicaciones médicas del embarazo, el diagnóstico prenatal y la ecografía. Trabaja en el Hospital San Ignacio de Bogotá y es coordinador de las Unidades de Obstetricia y Ecografía de Atención Intermedia.

El Dr. Silva es el investigador principal del proyecto multicéntrico COPA III, que se está desarrollando en el Hospital Universitario San Ignacio en Bogotá (JL Silva), en la ESE Clínica de Maternidad Rafael Calvo en Cartagena, ( J. Miranda, F. Edna, W. Anichiarico, J.A Rojas, JA Santacruz, A. Castillo); en el Centro Médico IMBANACO y la Clínica Versalles en Cali (D. Gallo, MF Figueredo) y en el Hospital Universitario San Vicente Fundación en Medellín (J. Velásquez, V. Lenis). El laboratorio clínico de COLSANITAS en Bogotá, conducirá los análisis de laboratorio del proyecto (J. Vargas, Y. Bernal) con el apoyo de Cedars Sinai Medical Center en Los Angeles, California, EEUU ( R. Burwick). La coordinación y apoyo del manejo de los datos con la plataforma RedCap se centra en Oregon Health & Science University en Portland, Oregon, EEUU. (M. Rincón) y la coordinación de FUNDARED-MATERNA en Bogotá (JE Tolosa), en Medellín (C. Valencia).

«ACTIVIDAD DEL COMPLEMENTO EN EL CEREBRO Y SU RELACION CON LA REGULACION CENTRAL DE LA HIPERTENSION EN PREECLAMPSIA – COPA III»

Objetivos

  1. Medir la activación del complemento en sangre, orina y líquido cefalorraquídeo LCR (C5a y C5b) en gestantes con Preeclampsia Severa llevadas a cesárea.
  2. Medir la activación del complemento en sangre, orina y LCR (C5b-C5a) en gestantes sanas llevadas a cesárea.
  3. Relacionar los niveles de C5a y C5b en orina, sangre y LCR en gestantes con Preeclampsia severa y gestantes sanas.

El Dr. Silva ha trabajado en tromboprofilaxis en obstetricia, preeclampsia y diabetes en el embarazo. Es profesor de obstetricia y ecografía de los programas de obstetricia y ginecología. En su tiempo libre le gusta jugar al squash y pasar tiempo con su familia.

Jorge Enrique Tolosa

Dr. Tolosa earned his medical degree and completed residency in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in his native Bogotá, Colombia. He then completed a fellowship in Perinatal Medicine and Ultrasound at Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Postgraduate Medical School, University of London in the UK. His interest in biomedical research took him to the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Epidemiology, followed by completion of residency requirements in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and a Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital, University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia. U.S.

He was a Senior Staff Fellow at the Perinatology Research Branch of the National Institutes of Child Health & Human Development of the National Institutes of Health in Washington DC. 

He was in the MFM faculty at Thomas Jefferson University and moved to Portland, Oregon, where he is a Professor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Oregon Health & Science University.

 He recently joined the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at St. Luke’s University Health Network as Director of Research in the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine. 

He is the Chair of the Steering Committee of the Global Network for Women’s and Childrens’ Health Research of the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NIH-NICHD) of the United States. (2019-2022). 

He is a member of the Standing Committee on Medical and Epidemiological Aspects of Air Pollution on U.S. Government Employees and their families of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine of the United States.

 He founded and co-directs FUNDARED-MATERNA in Colombia, a Foundation dedicated to capacity building and development of implementation research in Obstetrics, Gynecology and in Reproductive Health.

José Enrique Sanín Blair

Dr. Sanín Blair is an Ob Gyn from Universidad Bolivariana. In 2004 he finished the training in maternal fetal medicine and fetal intervention in Barcelona-Spain.

He has special interest in prenatal diagnosis, human genetics, fetal surgery and Preeclampsia.

Dr. Sanín is considered a pioneer in fetal surgery in Colombia, is a university professor, is a regular lecturer in national and international conferences and has multiple publications in his field.

For 15 years he has been coordinating the fetal surgery program for pregnancies with pathologies such as spina bifida and the problems of multiple pregnancy.

Dr. Sanín’s career has been recognized by the Colombian Senate of the Republic, where he received a mention in 2009 and has also received awards in medical conferences for research related to fetal and maternal health.

I am a doctor and surgeon of the University Libre of Cali, Gynaecologist and Obstetrician of the University of Antioquia, specialized in Fetology in FETUS Brazil.

I have participated as author of the national guides of prenatal care in Colombia of the Ministry of Health.

I have participated since 2003 to date in the scientific committees of the educational processes in perinatal ultrasound and in the topics of obstetric medicine of the Colombian Federation of Maternal Fetal Medicine.

I have been temporary advisor of the PAHO, FIGO and FLASOG for the strategies of reduction of perinatal and maternal morbidity and mortality in Latin America.

I am past President of the Association Antioqueña of Maternal Fetal Medicine,2015-2019.

Coordinated, since 2008, the Maternal Fetal Unit of Clinic of Prado in Medellin Colombia, institution that attends on average 1000 births a month.

I have also worked at the Antioquia Syndicate of Gynaecology and Obstetrics SOGOS as a medical assistant in maternal-fetal medicine, serving a vulnerable population with low economic resources.

I have written in the standard textbook of FECOLSOG the chapter of ultrasound diagnosis of placenta accreta.

I have worked in research groups regarding maternal and fetal health with the «Sexual and Reproductive Health» research groups of the Clínica del Prado, the CES University and the GRICIO group.

In my spare time I exercise outdoors, play soccer, share with my family and I enjoy reading different topics about medicine. I am a native Spanish speaker

Edgar Arenas

Dr. Edgar Arenas is a physician and Ob/Gyn graduate of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Antioquia, where he developed an interest in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM).

In 2010 he joined the group of Dr. Carlos Becerra, well-known perinatologist of the city of Bucaramanga in Colombia, a pioneer of fetal surgery in the country.

He was then accepted by Professor Kypros Nicolaides at the Fetal Medicine Foundation to complete a 2-year fellowship in London.

In 2012 he returned to the country with a degree in Fetal Medicine granted by «The Fetal Medicine Foundation», being the first in Medellin to have such a title, and immediately joined the fetal medicine unit of the San Vicente Foundation, giving him a strong impetus to implement the initiative of “turning the pyramid of prenatal control” and the open surgery program for spina bifida.

In 2013 he was promoted to full-time Professor at University of Antioquia and has mentored several students into the field.

He is currently involved in the creation of a line of research on morbidity and mortality due to preeclampsia.

Together with Professors in Genetics he designed the perinatal genetics curriculum for students in the last semester of Medicine and 1st-year residents.

He is currently part of the perinatal maternal committee of the San Vicente Foundation Hospital.

He was a member of the Board of Directors of the “Asociación Antioqueña de Medicina Materno Fetal” and is an evaluator of the “Colfuturo” Scholarship Program.

He has been a speaker in different National and international meetings of the specialty.
